UFC91 Overview

UFC 91 is set to take place on the 15^th November 2008 at the MGM arena in Las Vegas. The main event pits current UFC heavyweight champion, Randy Couture, against the former WWF superstars Brock Lesnar. This is the only title fight on the card but there are four other bouts on the “main card”.

Kenny Florian versus Joe Stevenson : Both of these fighters have impressive records and on card this looks like it could go either way. Many UFC followers will know of Kenny as he made the final in the first season of the “Ultimate Fighter”, where he lost to Diego Sanchez. Stevenson also made a name for himself through the Ultimate Fighter, where he finished first in the second series, winning himself a UFC contract. Of the two fighters Kenny is arguably the better at submissions, whilst Stevenson has far more experience.

Amir Sadollah versus Nick Catone : Amir was the winner of Ultimate Fighter 7, where he defeated CB “The Doberman” Dollaway in the first round. With no other UFC experience it would probably be correct to assume he has no chance against Nick Catone, but anybody who watched Ultimate Fighter will know just how good Saddolah is.

Gabriel Gonzaga versus Josh Hendricks : Of the two fighters Gonzaga looks to be a big favourite for this fight. With an impressive early career win over Mirko “Cro Cop” Fillipovic, Gonzaga looked like he was heading for UFC fame, but with back to back loses against Couture and Fabricio Werdum his train was derailed, and now he is looking to rebuild his record. With so much to prove this should be a fairly straight forward fight for him.

Demian Maia versus Nate Quarry : The unbeaten Damian Maia is set to square of against Nate Quarry, in what could prove to be a very good fight. Maia is coming in to this fight with a string of wins and you can be certain he won’t want to lose his eight fight win streak whilst Quarry will still be trying to avenge his recent first round loss to Rich Franklin.
