Stefan Struve vs Dave Herman Odds

Stefan Struve has plodded through the UFC heavyweight division for a while, seeing the wrong side of some spectacular knockout losses, with his share of spectacular wins as well. Currently, Struve finds himself on a 3-1 run, and after being brutally knocked out by rising contender Travis Browne, he’s since rebounded with a submission win over Pat Barry.

Current Stefan Struve vs Dave Herman Odds;

Struve – (+115) @ Bovada.Lv
Herman – (-145) @ Bovada.Lv

Dave Herman entered the UFC with a bit of hype owing primarily to his impressive record, and he went to war in his promotional debut with John Olav Einemo. In that fight, both fighters were dropped, however Herman managed to come out the victor. With an impressive win over Struve, there’s a good chance the UFC will attempt to push Herman, if they aren’t already by giving him a big fight like this.

Stylistically, this is an interesting fight to call. Struve probably holds a jiujitsu advantage, but he likely lacks the wrestling to bring things to the ground. Struve perhaps holds a technical striking and certainly a reach advantage, however his chin issues and Herman’s power probably mean a standup fight favours Herman.

Conceivably, I can see a standup fight with either winning, or I can see a ground fight with either winning. Struve has shown serious holes throughout his career, and the only word that can describe Dave Herman is “unmotivated”. However, even an unmotivated Herman can win this fight, and one has to think that he’s taking his career a little more seriously in the UFC.

I don’t care who he’s fighting, a bet against Struve is never an awful bet. Even against less than stellar opposition like Christian Morecraft, Denis Stojnic, and Sean Mccorkle, Stefan Struve was put in serious danger. Is Herman better than all three? In terms of athleticism and power, I certainly think so.

The case to make against Herman isn’t that hard. He gassed out badly against Choi, and was losing to Einemo, who just got beaten up by Mike Russow. As poorly as I think of Struve, Herman is definitely no world beater either.

The Stefan Struve vs Dave Herman prediction is that Struve finds himself on the wrong side of another big knockout loss. It could be dominant by Herman, or it could be after he survives some early danger, however outside of Pat Barry, Struve has no good wins in the UFC. Herman is one of the bigger guys that Struve has fought, and he’s a lot better than guys who have given Struve serious trouble. For that reason, I think a small bet has to be warranted on the -145 Herman line.

Conclusion: It’s winnable for Struve, but I see him suffering another brutal knockout loss, and you can play Herman small at the -145 price. Bet 3 Units on Herman to win 2.07 Units.
